Autoimmun hepatitt: Prognose

Autoimmun hepatitt er en kronisk sykdom som har en tendens til gradvis forverring, men forløpet kan gjerne være svingende med gode og dårlige perioder. Tilstanden kan forårsake skrumplever eller primært hepatocellulært karsinom på sikt. Disse komplikasjonene tilsier nøye oppfølging slik at problemene kan håndteres best mulig på et tidlig tidspunkt om de skulle oppstå. Hos noen kan sykdommen være helt rolig i måneder eller år etter behandling. Det er likevel viktig med oppfølging og kontroller hver 3. til 6. måned slik at behandlingen kan gjenopptas dersom sykdommen på nytt blusser opp.

Over 90% er i live og har ikke hatt behov for levertransplantasjon 10 år etter at sykdommen ble avdekket.
