Tyreoiditt

Tyreoiditt er en betennelse i skjoldkjertelen (tyreoidea). Det kan være ulike årsaker og former for tyreoiditt. Tilstanden kan gi både forhøyet og for lavt stoffskifte.

Thyreoideakjertelen

Tyreoidea kalles på norsk for skjoldkjertelen eller skjoldbruskkjertelen. Den er plassert nedad fortil på halsen, like nedenfor skjoldbrusken. Kjertelen produserer hormonet tyroksin i to forskjellige former, T4 og T3. Hovedfunksjonen til tyreoidea er regulering av stoffskiftet i kroppen ved hjelp av tyroksin. T3 er mer biologisk aktivt enn T4. En andel av sirkulerende T3 produseres ved at nyrene omdanner T4 til T3.
