Nyrebekkenbetennelse (pyelonefritt): Innleggelse?

De fleste milde til moderate tilfeller kan behandles hjemme med antibiotika. Om feberen ikke gir seg innen 72 timer etter behandlingsstart, eller om kvalme/ brekninger tiltar, er det oftest nødvendig med innleggelse i  sykehus. Det er da mistanke om blodforgiftning (urosepsis).

Gravide med nyrebekkenbetennelse anbefales innlagt for oppstart av behandling i sykehus. Barn under 6 måneder bør som regel innlegges. Innleggelse er også ofte aktuelt for eldre barn.
