Nyrebekkenbetennelse (pyelonefritt): Behandling

Behandlingsmålet er å fjerne infeksjonen og begrense mulige komplikasjoner. Infeksjonen behandles med antibiotika, vanligvis en kur på 7-10 dager. Ved gjentatte infeksjoner er det aktuelt med langtidsbehandling for å forebygge tilbakefall.

Urinveisinfeksjon med feber og allmennsymptomer krever rask behandling hos små barn. En nyrebekkenbetennelse hos barn kan føre til nyreskade dersom den forblir ubehandlet.

Barn med gjentatte urinveisinfeksjoner og tegn til nyreskade eller vesikourethral refluks, anbefales oftest forebyggende langtidsbehandling med antibiotika i lave doser.
