Langt fra alle påvirkes av stress
Selv om stressfaktorer ofte er forbundet med sykdom, så vil de aller fleste som utsettes for traumatiske hendelser og kroniske alvorlige problemer, forbli sykdomsfrie.

Utbrenthet er et begrep som brukes når noen har kjørt seg for hardt over lang tid. Når en blir utbrent, har en stått i en stresset situasjon for lenge. Begrepet utbrenthet er gjerne knyttet til en livsstil der folk stiller høye krav til seg selv både i jobb og privatliv. Den som er utbrent har ikke mer å gi og vil gjerne oppleve tilværelsen som meningsløs eller tom.
