Tvangslidelse: Årsaker
Årsaksforholdene er sannsynligvis sammensatte, og både arvelige, biologiske og psykologiske faktorer bidrar til utvikling av lidelsen. Grensene mellom egentlige årsakssammenhenger, forhold som oppstår som følge av tvangslidelse og utløsende faktorer er ikke veldefinerte. Mye tyder på at tvangslidelse er en utviklingsmessig forstyrrelse i sentralnervesystemet. Det synes å være en ubalanse i impulsoverføringene mellom ulike deler av hjernen. Dette fremmer dysfungerende handlinger. Ved behandling med antidepressiva (SSRI) og atferdsterapi er det sett normalisering av disse misforholdene.
