Alkoholmisbruk, symptomsjekk: Vanskelig å oppdage tidlig

  • De fleste alkoholikere går uoppdaget av leger og helsepersonell. Det skyldes først og fremst at alkoholikeren kan skjule drikkingen sin, benekte problemer som forårsakes av eller forverres av drikkingen, den gradvise utviklingen av sykdommen og kroppens evne til å tilpasse seg de økende alkoholmengdene.
  • Familiemedlemmer benekter ofte eller underslår alkoholproblemet. Uforvarende bidrar de til at alkoholismen fortsetter ved å dekke over problemet eller ved å overta ansvaret for familien eller økonomien. I mange tilfeller kan drikkingen lenge holdes skjult for familien og helsepersonell.
