Probiotika
Probiotika finnes i form av gjærede meieriprodukter som surmelk og yoghurt. De finnes også som frysetørrede bakterier i håndkjøpsmedisin mot diaré.

Hva er probiotika?
Et probiotikum er et helseprodukt som inneholder levende organismer, vanligvis bakterier - særlig melkesyrebakterier, som etter inntak kan forebygge eller bidra til behandling av tarmsykdom. Formålet med å bruke probiotika skal være å forbedre balansen i magetarm-kanalens bakteriesammensetning (bakterieflora), særlig ved tarmsykdom, og derigjennom bedre tarmens funksjon og bedre helsen. Forskning tyder på at strålebehandlede (døde) bakterier har samme biologiske virkning som levedyktige bakterier.
Melkesyrebakterier er den største gruppen av probiotiske bakterier i tarmen. Blant disse er laktobasiller, som finnes i varierende mengder i meieriprodukter som kefir, kulturmelk, yoghurt, creme fraiche, Cultura, Biola og BioQ. Den nest største gruppen probiotika er bifidobakterier. Probiotika finnes i enkelte matvarer og er også tilgjengelig som kosttilskudd.
