Koloskopi: Hvilke funn kan gjøres?

Betennelsesforandringer kan skyldes enten Crohns sykdom eller ulcerøs kolitt. I 10 prosent av tilfellene er det umulig å skille mellom disse tilstandene i tykktarmen. Det hender legen finner utposninger på tarmen (divertikler). En sjelden gang påvises arrforandringer som har resultert i en innsnevring av tarmen (striktur). Slike trange partier kan blokkes ut med en ballong som blåses opp.

Polypper er ikke uvanlige og ved behov kan endoskopøren fjerne dem eller ta prøver av dem. Kreft i tykktarmen er en forholdsvis hyppig tilstand og er vanligere jo eldre man er.
