Syfilis: Hvordan er prognosen?

Ved tidlig behandling helbredes man for syfilis.
Som hovedregel gjelder det at uten behandling vil:

  • 1/3 av alle som blir smittet med syfilis, bli spontant bra
  • 1/3 forblir i latent fase ut livet
  • 1/3 vil utvikle tertiærsyfilis

Tertiær syfilis arter seg på ulike måter: ca. 15% av infiserte får godartet (gummatøs) sensyfilis, 10% vil få syfilis med hjertekarkomplikasjoner og 6-7% vil få nevrosyfilis. Syfilis kan blomstre opp på ny ved hiv-aids-infeksjon selv etter tilsynelatende vellykket syfilis-behandling.
