Syfilis: Forebygging

Syfilis er en seksuelt overførbar sykdom, og det er nødvendig at alle dine seksuelle partnere testes og behandles. Personer som med sikkerhet har vært eksponert for smitte skal behandles uavhengig av testresultater. Både legebesøk og medisin til behandling av syfilis er gratis, dette gjelder også for smittekontakter.

Behandlingen kan svikte. Det er derfor nødvendig med kontroller for å sikre at infeksjonen er helbredet. 

Alle personer med smittsom syfilis bør avholde seg fra seksuelle aktiviteter helt til de er erklært smittefrie. Kondom reduserer risiko, men beskytter kun tildekkede deler. Sekundær syfilis kan også smitte gjennom hudsår.
