Autoimmunt polyglandulært syndrom: Årsaker

Kombinasjonen av autoimmun binyresvikt og andre autoimmune endokrine forstyrrelser betegnes som polyglandulære autoimmune syndromer av type I og II. Type I er en svært sjelden arvelig sykdom, mens type 2 er langt hyppigere og er den tilstanden som omtales i denne artikkelen.

Om lag halvparten av pasientene med APS II har slektninger med autoimmune sykdommer. Det foreligger da skader på arvestoffet (genene). Men i mange tilfeller finner man ingen arvelig sammenheng, og årsaken er da ukjent.
