Jernmangelanemi: Prognosen

Forløpet avhenger helt av årsaken til blodmangelen. Som oftest er jernmangelanemi i seg selv lett å behandle med ekstra tilførsel av jern. Selve jernmangelanemien gir få komplikasjoner utover plagsomme symptomer. Imidlertid vil en svært lav blodprosent (alvorlig anemi) disponere for uregelmessig hjerteaksjon, angina og hjerteinfarkt blant de eldste. Ellers er prognosen avhengig av underliggende sykdom som er årsak til jernmangelen.
