Hyppighet av drukning?

Over en lang tidsperiode har det vært en jevn nedgang i dødsfall på grunn av drukning. Dette har bl.a. sammenheng med at en økende andel av befolkningen kan svømme, og sikkerhetstiltak som gjør at færre faller i vannet. Det er en frykt for at drukningstall på ny kan øke fordi økonomiske forhold tvinger mange kommuner til å stenge sine svømmehaller. Det er også kjent at det i noen innvandrergrupper er mange som ikke kan svømme.

To av tre tilfeller oppstår under påvirkning av alkohol. Drukning ses hyppigst ved bade- og båtulykker, fall gjennom isen og som selvmordsforsøk. I Norge ble det registrert 110 dødsfall på grunn av drukning i 2015.
