Divertikkelsykdom: Behandling

Hensikten med behandlingen er å minske eventuelle plager. Regelmessige måltider og fiberrik kost anbefales til alle for å forebygge divertikulose. Dersom det er påvist divertikler, og du har smerteplager, er virkningen av fiber mer usikker. Vanligvis er det ikke nødvendig med medikamentell behandling, og noen ideelle medikamenter finnes heller ikke. Bløtgjørende avføringsmidler kan hjelpe mot forstoppelse i en periode.

Divertikulitt

Ved betennelse i divertiklene (divertikulitt) har det vært vanlig å behandle med antibiotika. Ny forskning viser at antibiotika ikke er nødvendig eller nyttig i milde eller ukompliserte tilfeller. 

I alvorlige tilfeller, hvor allmenntilstanden er dårlig, kreves innleggelse i sykehus. Da vil du oftest bli behandlet med antibiotika, væske og ernæring som tilføres intravenøst. Tarmen får hvile i noen dager. Bedring inntrer vanligvis i løpet av 2-3 dager.

I noen tilfeller kan det være aktuelt å fjerne den delen av tykktarmen som er rammet, ved et kirurgisk inngrep. Det er imidlertid kun unntaksvis behov for operasjon.
