Bukspyttkjertelbetennelse, akutt: Symptomer

Sykdomsforløpet kan spenne fra milde plager til en livstruende tilstand. Cirka en av fem pasienter får et alvorlig sykdomsbilde. De øvrige har et mildere sykdomsforløp.

Akutt bukspyttkjertelbetennelse (pankreatitt) utvikles ganske raskt og kjennetegnes ved moderate til sterke smerter i øvre deler av magen. Smertene øker gjerne i intensitet over noen timer før de når et platå som kan vare i flere dager.

I starten forverres smertene etter inntak av mat og drikke, særlig fet mat, og smertene blir etterhvert konstante. Smertene forverres ofte ved gange eller i sideleie, og de bedres gjerne i sittende stilling eller ved framoverbøying. Smerten kan stråle ut til ryggen, brystet, flankene eller nedre del av magen.

Ledsagende symptomer kan være kvalme, brekninger og lett feber. Langvarige smerter kan være tegn på utvikling av lokale komplikasjoner som akutte væskeansamlinger, nekrose, infeksjon eller pseudocyster.

Akutt bukspyttkjertelbetennelse som er forårsaket av alkoholoverforbruk opptrer vanligvis etter flere års misbruk. Det akutte anfallet kommer ofte 6 til 12 timer etter en episode med ekstra stort alkoholkonsum.

Gjentatte episoder med akutt bukspyttkjertelbetennelse er ikke uvanlig dersom underliggende årsak vedvarer, for eksempel gallestein eller høyt alkoholkonsum.
