Brystbrannsykdom: Prognose

Tilstanden er kronisk med gode og dårlige perioder. Medikamenter hjelper, men bare så lenge man tar dem. Men brystbrannsykdom er en helt ufarlig sykdom.

Det kan oppstå enkelte komplikasjoner som følge av sykdommen:

  • Betennelse i spiserøret (se over)
  • Forsnevring i spiserøret på grunn av kronisk betennelse, noe som skjer svært sjelden
  • Astmatiske plager som skyldes at det kommer saltsyre fra magesekken til spiserøret, og videre over til luftrøret
  • Barrets øsofagus er et forstadium til kreft i spiserøret, men tilstanden forekommer sjelden.
