Effekten av behandling er god, men nye forandringer i solutsatt hud kan oppstå. Det kan også komme tilbakefall på samme sted som tidligere. Dersom hudforandringene ikke behandles, vil noen utvikle seg til hudkreft, jfr. over.

Det er viktig at du bruker høy solfaktor for å beskytte deg mot solen. På utsatte områder bør du bruke krem med solfaktor 15 eller høyere.
