Forekomst av aktinisk keratose

Personer som har vært eksponert for intenst sollys over mange år, har størst risiko. Mer enn 80 prosent av de aktiniske keratosene forekommer på de hudområdene som er mest utsatt for sollys, som hodet, halsen, underarmene og hendene. Tilstanden forekommer oftere med økende alder, og er hyppigere hos menn og hos personer med lys hud. I en studie i Nederland fant man minst en aktinisk keratose hos 38 prosent av alle som ble undersøkt i aldersgruppen over 50 år.
