Føflekkreft (malignt melanom): Forekomst
Melanom er den kreftformen som øker mest, med rundt tre til fem prosent økning i antall nye tilfeller per år. I Norge rapporteres om en åtte-dobling over de siste 20 årene.
Årlig forekomst i Norge er rundt 40 per 100 000, og livstidsrisikoen for å utvikle føflekkreft er rundt to prosent. I 2019 var det totalt 28.727 tilfeller med føflekkreft og av disse hadde 18.824 levd 5 år eller lengre med sykdommen. Antall nye tilfeller i Norge i 2019 var 1202 menn og 1128 kvinner, mens samme året døde 190 menn og 117 kvinner av melanom. Melanom rammer også unge mennesker, en av fire er under 40 år. Det vanligste er å utvikle sykdommen i 50-års alder. Det er store etniske forskjeller: Hvite har ti ganger høyere risiko enn fargede for å få melanom.
Melanom utgjør tre til fem prosent av alle hudkrefttilfeller, men er skyld i tre av fire dødsfall av hudkreft.
Føflekkreft oppstår på kroppen i fire av ti tilfeller, og på bena i en av tre tilfeller. Melanom er vanligere på legger hos kvinner og på ryggen hos menn.
