Churg-Strauss syndrom: Årsak

Årsaken til sykdommen er ukjent. En foreslått mekanisme for sykdomsutvikling er eksponering for et uidentifisert stoff (antigen), for eksempel et inhalasjonsstoff, medikament, vaksine eller virus. Dette angigenet utløser en immunreaksjon som fører til at det oppstår en betennelsesreaksjon i små blodårer.

Selv om de fleste som får Churg-Strauss syndrom har astma, er det sannsynligvis ikke slik at astma disponerer for sykdommen. Mer trolig er det at astma er et tidlig tegn på Churg-Strauss syndrom.
