Forebyggende tiltak hos barn som har utviklet allergi

Hos barn som allerede har allergisk sykdom, kan tidlig innsatt effektiv behandling føre til symptomfrihet, lavere medisinforbruk, bedre livskvalitet og større sjanse for å forhindre forverring med utvikling av andre allergier og symptomer.

Eliminering av allergener

Hos barn med matvareallergi, allergisk astma og høysnue er redusert eksponering for det/de allergifremkallende stoffene (allergener) som barnet reagerer på, en logisk del av behandlingen. Forutsetningen er at allergenet kan identifiseres og fjernes, eller at betydelig reduksjon av eksposisjonen er mulig. Det gjelder spesielt for matvarer, husstøvmidd og dyrehår.

Eliminasjon av irritanter

Innemiljøet, især eksposisjon for tobakksrøyk, spiller en avgjørende rolle for luftveissymptomer hos barn. Eksposisjon for tobakksrøyk øker plagene fra luftveiene, gir en dårligere prognose og øker behovet for medisin. Tobakksrøyk synes å være en av de mest betydningsfulle utløsende årsaker til astmasymptomer, som det er mulig å forebygge.

Vaksinasjon mot allergi

Vaksinasjon mot allergi, hyposensibiliserende behandling, er vist å være en effektiv behandling til pasienter med høysnue eller allergisk astma der plagene skyldes husstøvmidd, gresspollen, bjørkepollen og dyrehår. Allergivaksinasjon synes dessuten å kunne nedsette risikoen for å utvikle astma hos barn med høysnue og pollenallergi.
