Bedømning av grad av nedkjøling

Dersom man ikke har tilgang til et termometer, finnes det symptomer og tegn som kan være til hjelp for å bedømme alvorlighetsgraden (stadium 1-4). Det er viktig å være klar over at disse tegnene er unøyaktige, og ikke helt kan erstatte en temperaturmåling.

Hypotermi stadium 1 (32-35 °C)

  • Pasienten skjelver, men er fullt bevisst.
  • Hudoverflaten er kald og blek.
  • Pasienten er ofte urolig og kan klage over smerter i albue, hender, kneledd og underlivet.

Hypotermi stadium 2 (28-32 °C)

  • Pasienten skjelver ikke lenger, og bevisstheten avtar gradvis.
  • Talen blir slørete.
  • Pusten er langsom og svak.
  • Pulsen er langsom og kan være uregelmessig.

Hypotermi stadium 3 (24-28 °C)

  • Pasienten er bevisstløs.
  • Svært kald hud.
  • Ekstremt lav puls.
  • Puls i armer og bein er fraværende på grunn av dårlig eller ingen sirkulasjon.
  • Få og små pustebevegelser.

Hypotermi stadium 4

  • Kan foreligge når det ikke kan finnes verken pust, puls eller bevegelser i kroppen (temp < 24 °C)
