Sterilisering, mann: Komplikasjoner

Det vil være ømhet og noe hevelse i pungen de første dagene. Det anbefales derfor at du holder deg i ro især det første døgnet. De aller fleste er tilbake til normale aktivitet i løpet av en ukes tid. Komplikasjoner som hevelse og blodutredelse er vanlig og ikke farlig. Infeksjoner som må behandles med antibiotika, er sjeldne.

Blodansamlinger (hematom) eller infeksjon i såret angis hos omtrent en til to prosent. Dersom såret blir betent med puss og kraftig rødfarge, bør kirurgen kontaktes på ny. Hos de fleste er inngrepet uten komplikasjoner. Men cirka én av tjue menn som steriliseres med vasektomi (rund fem prosent), opplever betydelig og langvarig sårhet og ømhet i operasjonsområdet (post-vasektomi smertesyndrom, PVPS).
