Bakteriell vaginose: Prognose

Prognosen er god, det vil si at dette er en ufarlig tilstand. Tilbakefall er svært vanlig både hos de som er behandlet og hos de som er blitt bra av seg selv. Men heller ikke ved tilbakefall er det nødvendig med behandling dersom plagene er til å holde ut. Man blir ofte bra uten behandling, og det anses fornuftig å avvente utviklingen dersom plagene ikke er for uttalte. Når plagene er for uttalte, for eksempel på grunn av lukt, kløe eller ubehag, gis en kur. Behandlingen har som regel svært rask virkning, men gjentatte kurer kan bli nødvendig.
