Bakteriell vaginose: Diagnostikk

Symptomene er sjelden særlig uttalte, og tilstanden er uten symptomer hos mer enn halvparten. Utflodens lukt og karakteristiske utseende er ofte nok til å stille diagnosen. I tillegg kan legen utføre noen enkle tester av utfloden som bekrefter diagnosen, dersom det er tvil. En av disse er måling av pH-verdi i utfloden. Dyrkningsprøve av bakteriene brukes ikke, fordi de aktuelle bakteriene ofte kan finnes hos kvinner som ikke har sykdommen.
