Svimmelhet, diagnostikk
Sykehistorien er avgjørende når diagnosen skal stilles. Legen vil foreta en grundig undersøkelse av blodtrykk, hjerte og lunger samt såkalt nevrologisk undersøkelse. En undersøkelse av ørene vil også være nødvendig. I tillegg tas blodprøver som kan hjelpe til å skille mellom de mulige årsaker til plagene.

Andre undersøkelser som kan være nødvendige dersom man ikke finner forklaringen ved en vanlig undersøkelse, er:
- Audiometri - hørselstest
- CT eller MR av hjerne eller indre øre
- EEG - registrering av elektrisk aktivitet i hjernen med elektroder som festes til hodebunnen
- Forskjellige spesialtester for balanse og hørsel
