Hva er det?

  • Helsesvikt hos eldre innebærer vekttap, nedsatt matlyst, dårlig ernæring og inaktivitet, ofte ledsaget av inntørking, nedstemthet, nedsatt forsvar mot infeksjoner
  • Sviktende helse hos eldre er forbundet med økt risiko for infeksjoner, lårhalsbrudd, trykksår og økt dødelighet ved kirurgi
  • Enkelte eldre pasienter, inkludert både de med akutt eller kronisk sykdom, gjennomgår en prosess med tiltakende funksjonssvikt, økende apati, tap av viljen til å spise og drikke, og det hele ender med at pasienten dør
