Tabell 1 viser alkoholinnholdet i ulike drikker og mengde alkohol per glass eller serveringsenhet. Du ser i høyre kolonne at et glass vin gir om lag like mye alkohol som et glass pils og en drink brennevin – om lag 12-15 gram. Dette kalles en standard alkoholenhet eller serveringsenhet.

Alkohol gir forholdsvis mye energi, 1 gram alkohol gir 7 kcal (29 kJ). Flere alkoholholdige drikker inneholder også en del sukker. Alkohol kan representere en betydelig energikilde for dem som inntar alkohol daglig.
