Nefrotisk syndrom: Årsaker

I ca. 50 prosent av tilfellene hos voksne og 90 prosent av tilfellene hos barn, skyldes utvikling av nefrotisk syndrom en betennelse i selve nyrevevet (glomerulonefritt). Det finnes mange typer nyrebetennelser, og den underliggende årsaken er nesten alltid ukjent (idiopatisk). Hos voksne kan også såkalte bindevevssykdommer eller stoffskiftesykdommer føre til nefrotisk syndrom. Hyppigst av disse er systemisk lupus erythematosus (SLE), leddgikt, amyloidose og diabetes mellitus.
