Alkoholisk leverskade: Behandling

Hensikten med behandlingen er å stoppe den videre utvikling av leversykdommen for å forhindre leversvikt. Den aller viktigste og helt nødvendige behandlingen er at inntaket av alkohol stanses. Man må også sørge for god ernæring og rikelig væskeinntak. Ulike medikamenter kan forsøkes, spesielt glukokortikoider, men de må brukes med forsiktighet.

Ved akutt leverbetennelse behøver pasienten vanligvis innleggelse i sykehus.
