Streptokokkhalsinfeksjon: Behandling

Hvile og avlastning er fornuftig. Febernedsettende og smertestillende medikamenter som paracetamol kan benyttes ved behov. Dersom sykehistorie og eventuelt halsprøve viser at det er en streptokokkinfeksjon, anbefales vanlig penicillinkur i ti dager. Når du tar en penicillinkur mot streptokokker, er det viktig at kuren fullføres for å forebygge tilbakefall. Antibiotikabehandling av GAS forkorter sykdomsvarigheten med 24-36 timer, demper symptomene i moderat grad, og reduserer smittsomheten.

Halsbetennelse forårsaket av andre bakterier enn streptokokker, eller av virus, gjør deg sjelden så syk som ved streptokokkinfeksjon. I de fleste av disse sykdomstilfellene er kroppens eget immunforsvar i stand til å overvinne infeksjonen, og antibiotika anbefales ikke. Milde streptokokkinfeksjoner med sår hals uten feber, kan også trygt behandles uten antibiotika.
