Årsak til pityriasis versicolor

Gjærsoppen Malassezia furfur finnes normalt på huden og i hårbunnen hos nesten alle voksne. Under visse betingelser blir soppen mer aktiv, den invaderer huden og forårsaker hudforandringer. Blant de faktorer som fører til denne omdannelsen, er økt svette- og talgutskillelse i varmt og fuktig vær. Personer med nedsatt allmenntilstand er mer utsatt for slik aktivering av soppen.
