Tilstanden har en lei tendens til å komme tilbake, og hos noen blir den kronisk. Særlig gjelder det dersom du har et yrke der fingrene stadig er oppbløtte, og der det lett kan oppstå små rifter eller sår. Forsøk derfor å unngå oppbløting av fingrene ved bruk av hansker og god håndhygiene. For noen kan det bli aktuelt å skifte arbeid.
