Knutestruma: Symptomer

I tidlig fase er stoffskiftet vanligvis normalt, og tilstanden uten symptomer. Etter hvert kommer et synlig struma og med tiden kan det oppstå symptomer og tegn på hypertyreose (rastløs, hyperaktiv, varm, hjertebank, skjelving, vekttap, etc.). Hos eldre kan tilstanden være lite symptomgivende, eller i noen tilfeller føre til psykiske endringer.

Store struma kan gi ubehag ved trykk mot halsen, og kan i sjeldne tilfeller trykke på luftrøret og forårsake tung pust.
