Diabetisk fotteam
Ved mange sykehus i landet har man etablert et såkalt diabetisk fotteam. Medlemmer av et diabetesfotteam kan være endokrinolog (hormonspesialist)/indremedisiner, karkirurg/kirurg/ortoped, diabetessykepleier, ortopediingeniør og autorisert fotterapeut. Ved behov må nevrolog, infeksjonsmedisiner og hudlege tilkalles. Fotteamet tar seg av høyrisikopasienter og fotsårpasienter. Om det ikke finnes et fotteam ved ditt sykehus, vil det likevel være helsepersonell der med ekspertise på dette feltet.
Det har vist seg at man klarer å redusere antall sår og amputasjoner når pasienter med diabetes behandles av tverrfaglige team som tar seg av både forebyggende tiltak og behandling.
