Hiv-infeksjon, diagnostikk: Virus-belastningstest

Denne prøven måler antall viruspartikler (hiv RNA) i blodet. Resultatet av prøven forteller hvor bra kroppen din takler hiv. Hvis virusmengden er høy betyr det at det er mye virus i blodet ditt og kroppen din håndterer viruset dårlig. Hvis virusmengden er lav, betyr det at immunsystemet ditt har bra kontroll over hiv. Ved vellykket behandling er virustallene lave eller ikke påvisbare i det hele tatt. Man sier at dersom det påvises mindre enn 50 viruspartikler/ml etter 24 ukers behandling, er behandlingen vellykket, og kan fortsette med uforandret medisin.
