Allergivaksinering: Behandlingsopplegget

Behandlingen gis enten i form av tabletter eller dråper som tas daglig - enten en smeltetablett eller en dråpe under tungen. Den første dosen tas under oppsyn og overvåkning hos lege som er vant med denne typen behandling. Deretter tas medisinen en gang daglig, vanligvis i tre år.

Tablettbasert allergivaksinasjon er blitt en mulighet de senere årene. Det finnes i dag tre typer: mot gresspollenallergi, bjørkepollenallergi og mot husstøvallergi. Behandlingen må brukes daglig hele året ved allergi mot husstøvmidd, mens det ved allergi mot gresspollen og bjørkepollen må startes minst 4 måneder før pollensesongen og brukes gjennom hele sesongen. Behandlingen må pågå i minst 3 år for å oppnå effekt på allergien. Alle disse midlene kan fås på blåresept såfremt annen allergibehandling ikke har gitt tilstrekkelig effekt.

Dråpevaksiner kan skaffes for gress- og trepollen, husstøvmidd, muggsopp, katt og hundeallergi. 

Vaksiner for sprøytebehandling finnes for bjørk og gressallergi, og for vaksinering av bi- eller vepse-allergi. 

Dersom det brukes sprøytebehandling må det gjøres en gradvis doseøkning med tette intervaller de første ca. 8 uker. Deretter, nå riktig dose er funnet, fortsetter man med en sprøyte under huden hver 8. uke i tre år. Ved vaksine mot sesongallergi, det vil si gress- eller trepollen, er det viktig å starte tre til fire måneder før sesongen for å oppnå effekt det første året. Det vil i praksis si at starten bør være senest i januar, i alle fall i Sør-Norge.
