Svangerskapsforgiftning (preeklampsi): Forløp
Sykdomsforløpet er vanskelig å forutsi, og tilstanden kan i noen tilfeller forverre seg raskt. Hyppige kontroller er derfor viktig.
Blodtrykket normaliserer seg vanligvis allerede noen timer etter fødselen, men det kan være forhøyet i opptil fire uker.

I de fleste tilfeller forløper en svangerskapsforgiftning ukomplisert, men det er økt risiko for redusert fostervekst og for tidlig fødsel. De sjeldne tilstandene HELLP og eklampsi er mer alvorlige komplikasjoner som krever intensivbehandling i sykehus. Ved disse tilstandene er det økt risiko for dødelig utgang for mor og barn.
