Det er viktig å være klar over at behandlingen for glaukom som regel er livsvarig. Ingen form for behandling vil kunne gi bedre syn, og det kan være bivirkninger forbundet med all slags behandling. Det er nødvendig med regelmessige kontroller hos øyelege for å sikre at behandlingen er tilfredsstillende. Hva som er beste behandling, og hvor ofte kontrollene skal foregå, må avgjøres i hvert enkelt tilfelle.
