Testikkelkreft: Prognose

Nesten alle menn med testikkelkreft kan i dag regne med helbredelse uten større mén. En til to måneder etter at behandlingen er avsluttet, kan pasienten som regel gjenoppta jobb, idrett og andre fritidsaktiviteter. En del pasienter vil ha både fysisk og psykisk nytte av et fysisk etterbehandlings- og opptreningsprogram.

Strålebehandling kan gi forbigående kvalme og diaré. Cellegiftbehandlingen kan medføre kvalme og oppkast, mage- og muskelsmerter, forbigående håravfall og noen klager over langvarige stikninger i fingre og tær.

Fruktbarhet

Det produseres vanligvis nok mannlig kjønnshormon og sædceller i den gjenværende friske testikkelen, slik at de fleste pasientene kan føre et normalt seksualliv og få barn etter behandlingen. Etter strålebehandling og cellegiftkurer tar det vanligvis ett til to år før sædcelleproduksjonen tar seg opp igjen. Uansett bør alle pasienter utsette forsøkene på å bli far til ett år etter stråling eller behandling med cellegift for å unngå skader på arveanleggene. Alle pasienter tilbys nedfrysing av sæd i en autorisert sædbank.

Noen pasienter er misfornøyde med det kosmetiske utseende av bare én testikkel i pungen, og disse kan få operert inn en testikkelprotese.
