  1. Grad 1 blør bare, buker ikke ut og ses ikke ved inspeksjon av endetarmen, men de kan påvises ved endoskopi
  2. Grad 2 buker ut når du presser, men glir tilbake av seg selv
  3. Grad 3 buker ut konstant og må skyves inn
  4. Grad 4 buker ut og lar seg ikke skyve på plass (sjelden tilstand)

Blødning er det hyppigste symptomet ved grad 1-2 hemoroider, mens slimutskillelse, smerter, kløe, irritasjon og hygieneproblemer er de hyppigste symptomer ved grad 3-4 hemoroider. Symptomer kommer og går. Det er ofte dårlig sammsvar mellom subjektive plager og objektive funn.
