Koronavirus (coronavirus): Behandling

Det finnes ingen spesifikk antiviral behandling mot koronavirusene. Behandling av SARS-pasienter med en kombinasjon av hiv-medisinene lopinavir og ritonavir var assosiert med færre uheldige utfall.

Det er ingen kjent behandling som har vesentlig effekt mot luftveissykdommen covid-19. Den generelle behandling består i god væsketilførsel, oksygen og eventuelt bruk av pustemaskin (respirator) hos kritisk syke og behandling av komplikasjoner. Kritisk syke pasienter med covid-19 kan ha nytte av behandling med et kortisonlignende legemiddel. Denne type behandling har ikke effekt mot milde eller moderate tilfeller av covid-19.

Massevaksinering mot SARS-CoV-2 i kombinasjon med andre tiltak for å hindre smittespredning brukes til å bekjempe covid-19-pandemien. Det finnes ikke vaksiner mot SARS eller MERS - disse tilfeller må håndteres med smitteverntiltak og symptomrettet behandling alene.
