Heteslag: Årsak
Opphold i omgivelser med temperaturer som er høyere enn det kroppen er vant til, disponerer for heteslag. Ved temperaturer over 35°C øker faren betraktelig. Akklimatisering til nye temperaturer kan ta fra noen få dager og opptil tre uker. Raske temperaturforandringer er derfor de farligste, og av samme grunn vil reisende gjerne være utsatt. Er det i tillegg høy luftfuktighet vil kroppens temperaturregulering ytterligere forringes, og hvis du i tillegg utsettes for varmestråling, som oftest sol, vil risikoen øke ytterligere.

- Hardt fysisk arbeid eller intensiv trening
- Febersykdom
- Inntak av enkelte legemidler eller narkotiske stoffer
- Nedsatt evne til å kvitte seg med varme
- Dehydrering
- Hjertesvikt
- Barn og eldre
- Fedme
- Upassende bekledning
- Alkoholinntak
